When Netflix arrived it stormed throughthe US. I being locked out of both blockbuster & hollywood video
due to huge late fees ws quickly hoocked on Netflix. Having some free-time from work, I watched like '20' movies & documentaries daily, at super fast
DVD playback. It felt kinda like the Matrix movie when downloading martial arts & edu into Neo's brain. Many of those documentaries are now on YouTube.
One documentary was of Ben Franklin. As a teenager about the yr 1720, (300 yrs ago) he read a pamphlet that encouraged very liberal lifestyle.
Not long after, in his 20's realizing his life was going the wrong way; using a sheet of paper he made a 7day scorecard (like he was taught)
working on his top character flaws. link.
With a simple journal & scorecard, he broke free from that lifestyle.
He afterword accomplished and discovered: Bifocal Glasses, Lightning rod, and founded the following: First Public Hospital,
The University of Pennsylvania, First Public Library, First Fire Department, US Postal system, and Scientific Research school.
Franklin's scorecard journal idea had a worldwide impact, inspiring 1000's of initiatives: organizations, foundations, and corporations.
🎬 Ben Franklin
In my early 20's of my own life, while doing volunteer work overseas, I caught a flubug like addiction (ironically being lead by exact obedience). Some 15 years later though my life appeared to be a somewhat of success, that flubug habit had compounded to form several very binding addictions. After watching that Franklin documentary on Netflix, I created a score card like he did, instead of listing virtues, I listed stuff to practice daily, like cardio, eat healthy daily... and journaling my experience. By practicing that Franklin journal idea, I broke all of those accumulated 15 years of addictions!
Give it a Try: Create a score cardLink (like Franklyn did), then add things to try daily as a 1 week challenge. Check off daily items, while scribbling thoughts. At the end of week, doing a journal review to self.
My own experience was unbelievable, within only months I achieved 100% success, destroying each of my unhealthy behaviors.
By keeping a daily note book and score card I recovered my life!
Here is a 7 day challenge were you can step into Benjamin Franklin’s shoes for 1 week.
Here is a snapshot of what life was like at time of Franklin: Origins of these types of flubugs were amplified by the impacts of Industrial Revolution, as we struggle with challenges of our day, reference of life only 100+ years ago scape our view; society developes a kind of cognitive bias.
📣In my youth I heard a man speak to a group about how as a Dad, he was still upset about something his own Father did to their family, it was still bothering his own life. His wife encouraged him to meet with a psychologist, the psychologist told him that if he liked they could meet regularly, though if he would 'once a day' journal to himself about that which was on his mind, then he would figure it all out by himself and would no longer need assistance.
He started a private journal, within a short time just by keeping a daily journal of what he was unhappy about, just as that psychiatrist had said, he found all his answers and freed himself of what he was struggling with.
Many years later I recalled that story I heard in my youth. I was also upset though not at my Dad, by journaling daily together with a score cardᨒ,
I discovered an entire world of insight, got rid of my anger, as well broke all my unhealthy flubug like habit, that I collected not of my own fault.
Today journaling is still often seen incorrectly as:
• something done for posterity
• as a record about oneself
• a documentary like a diary
Like the story above, journaling to self about anything on your mind, (as well as to self improve) you can easily find hidden answers at any stage in life. Self journaling daily, can hyper-jump your insight, increase your influence, and impact your surroundings.
